Founded in 2009 and headquartered in Mexico City, Tiendas Neto operates a hard discount model in which each store stocks only the essential, fastest-selling products a household buys week after week. As this concentrates the company's volume into a small number of products, Neto buys each one in larger quantities than conventional grocers and secures lower costs from its suppliers. Small but efficient stores, simple layouts and fast inventory turnover keep the rest of the operation lean. Rather than keeping all of the difference as margin, Neto passes a good portion of it on price to end consumers, complementing branded goods with own-brand products sourced directly from manufacturers. The company is known for its cost discipline, its periodic price reviews, and prices that consistently undercut both supermarkets and competing discounters.

Why we invested

Glisco identified the opportunity to partner with a leading hard discounter in Mexico, supported by (i) a founder-led management team with an outstanding track record of scaling the business from a single store into a national chain, (ii) the structural underpenetration of the format in the Mexican grocery market relative to developed markets, together with its resilience through economic downturns, and (iii) Neto’s proven, capital-efficient store model, in which a low-cost format and a negative working capital cycle combine to generate high returns per store and help fund further openings. The company is well-positioned to grow revenue per store, continue its expansion, and bring quality groceries at accessible prices to bottom-of-the-pyramid consumers in large cities and underserved rural communities alike.
